Brazil's 2025/26 growing season brought a record harvest. But when farmers open their books, profits have been squeezed to their lowest point in nearly two decades, edging toward breakeven. The extra grain hasn't turned into cash — instead, it's pushed many farmers to borrow for the next season. And who they're borrowing from is changing. It used to be their own capital, or traditional banks; now it's increasingly supplier-financed credit, or structured financing from the capital markets.
Whoever can front the cash for this season's crop, in some sense, gains control of the road to the farmer; whoever can hold their ground in product registration, distribution, agronomic prescription, or market access finds their footing in this reshuffle. Zoom that observation out across all of Latin America — what does the picture look like?
Following this thread, 2026 Latin America Focus will take the question apart piece by piece, then reassemble the intelligence, in an attempt to sketch out where the region's agri-input industry is shifting and where it's headed.
We invite stakeholders across every link of the value chain — financiers, local formulators, independent agronomists, multinationals, regulatory observers — to join this conversation and tell us, in your own voice, what you're seeing from where you stand.
Core Topics:
Who's footing the bill for farmers, and who's surviving the shakeout?
The third road around distribution — what are local formulators doing?
After registration, what earns a product a place in the agronomic prescription?
Facing divergent access rules, how should market decisions be made?
A crowded toolbox — where do biologicals actually hold their ground?
